Book: Building the Christian Family You Never Had

 

Gratitude is recognizing God is good. One dictionary defines gratitude as "a warm feeling one has toward a benefactor" - a beautiful definition consider God gives us good gifts, when he showers us with grace and peace and joy, kindness is awakened in us. Gratitude has many synonyms: appreciation, thankfulness and gratefulness.

 

 

I am blind, please help

A blind boy sat on the steps of a building with a hat by his feet. He held up a sign which said: 'I am blind, please help.' There were only a few coins in the hat.

A man was walking by. He took a few coins from his pocket and dropped them into the hat. He then took the sign, turned it around, and wrote some words. He put the sign back so that everyone who walked by would see the new words.

Soon the hat began to fill up. A lot more people were giving money to the blind boy. That afternoon the man who had changed the sign came to see how things were. The boy recognized his footsteps and asked, 'Were you the one who changed my sign this morning? What did you write?'

The man said, 'I only wrote the truth. I said what you said but in a different way.'
What he had written was: 'Today is a beautiful day and I cannot see it.'

Do you think the first sign and the second sign were saying the same thing?

Of course both signs told people the boy was blind. But the first sign simply said the boy was blind. The second sign told people they were so lucky that they were not blind. Should we be surprised that the second sign was more effective?

 Moral of the Story: Be thankful for what you have. Be creative. Be innovative. Think differently and positively.

Wrong Address

A man checked into a hotel. There was a computer in his room, so he decided
to send an e-mail to his wife. However, he accidentally typed a
wrong e-mail address, and without realizing his error, he sent the e-mail.

Meanwhile....Somewhere in Houston, a widow had just returned from her
husband's funeral. The widow decided to check her e-mail, expecting
condolence messages from relatives and friends.
After reading the first message, she fainted. The widow's son rushed into
the room, found his mother on the floor, and saw the computer screen which

I know you're surprised to hear from me. They have computers here, and we

When you look at the world from this point of view, you can see there is a real need for solidarity,

A Date

"A Date"

After 21 years of marriage, my wife wanted me to take another woman out to dinner and a movie. She said I love you but I know this other woman loves you and would love to spend some time with you.

The other woman that my wife wanted me to visit was my MOTHER, who has been a widow for 19 years, but the demands of my work and my three children had made it possible to visit her only occasionally.

That night I called to invite her to go out for dinner and a movie.

"What's wrong, are you well," she asked? My mother is the type of woman who suspects that a late night call or a surprise invitation is a sign of bad
news.

"I thought that it would be pleasure with you," I responded. "Just the two of us."

She thought about it for a moment, and then said, "I would like that very much."

That Friday after work, as I drove over to pick her up I was a bit nervous. When I arrived at her house, I noticed that she, too, seemed to be nervous about our date. She waited in the door with her coat on. She had curled her hair and was wearing the dress that she had worn to celebrate her last wedding anniversary.

She smiled from a face that was as radiant as an angel's.

"I told my friends that I was going to go out with my son, and they were impressed, "she said, as she got into the car. "They can't wait to hear about our meeting". We went to a restaurant that, although not elegant, was very nice and cozy. My mother took my arm as if she were the First Lady.

After we sat down, I had to read the menu. Large print. Half way through the entries, I lifted my eyes and saw Mom sitting there staring at me. A nostalgic smile was on her lips.

"It was I who used to have to read the menu when you were small," she said.

"Then it's time that you relax and let me return the favor," I responded.

During the dinner, we had an agreeable conversation - nothing extraordinary, but catching up on recent events of each other's life. We talked so much that we missed the movie.

As we arrived at her house later, she said, "I'll go out with you again, but only if you let me invite you." I agreed.

"How was your dinner date?" asked my wife when I got home. "Very nice. Much more so than I could have imagined," I answered.

A few days later, my mother died of a massive heart attack. It happened so suddenly that I did not do anything for her.

Some time later, I received an envelope with a copy of a restaurant receipt from the same place mother and I had dined.

An attached note said: "I paid this bill in advance. I wasn't sure that I could be there; but nevertheless, I paid for two plates - one for you and the other for your wife. You will never know what that night meant for me. I love you, son."

At that moment, I understood the importance of saying in time: "I LOVE YOU!" and to give our loved ones the time that they deserve. Nothing in life is more important than God and your family. Give them the time they deserve, because these things cannot be put off till "some other time."

Here's hoping today is better than yesterday and tomorrow.

《荒莫甘泉》中記述一位女傭人不住禱告的見證──每早晨當她打開眼睛便禱告：主啊，求你開我心裡的眼睛。穿上衣時，便禱告願能穿上基督的義袍。洗臉時，求主洗淨心靈；作工時，求主給她日子如何力量也如何；點火時，就求主挑旺她的愛火；掃地時，就求主除去她心裡的污穢… …。這位姊妹常常這樣從早到晚向神禱告，所作的每件事都給她一個禱告的意念。

我們覺得持續的禱告難實行，是因為不習慣把禱告和日常生活結合起來。倘若能嘗試像這位姊妹，把生活中每個環節都化成禱告，我們的禱告生活便會更豐富自然。

此外，我們在日常生活中看到或聽到很多人間不幸，如天災人禍、家庭悲劇，我們都可以為那些不幸的人們禱告。這是神兒女的天職。雖然我們常自覺力量微小，但我們若體貼主的心，必常記念周圍的人，並藉禱告改變世界！

ONE: Remember that we are all in the same boat.
[Kian] Yes, we are in the same boat at "Jacob's Ark".
 
TWO: Don't miss the boat.
[Kian] Jacob will be in action on this Friday. Please don't miss that!!!

 

THREE: Plan ahead. It wasn't raining when Noah built the Ark.
[Kian]  Thanks for sharing the dreams with us 2 weeks ago. Actions will be taken and planning is underway. We will have something new rolling out in 2005. Stay tuned!

 

FOUR: Stay fit. When you're 60 years old, someone may ask you to do something really big.
[Kian]  Tell you what... I started a gym program 2 weeks ago at Nortel. Now I am proud to say that I can run a non-stop track for 20 minutes each day and burn 250 calories each run!!!  I already loss 2 pounds.

 

For those who are interested, I am organizing a skating club to skate in Redeau Canal after the church service. Please join me. Let's stay fit FOR GOD.

 

FIVE: Don't listen to critics; just get on with the job that needs to be done.
[Kian]  Amen. Let's do it with a purpose and get the job done. Let's make our life a Purpose Drive Life!!!

 

SIX: Build your future on high ground.
[Kian]  Disagree! Even the highest ground in the earth was covered by the flood water during Noah's time. I build my "future" on "high tech", it is becoming bubble again. Just learned that a few days ago that my term will come to an end by the end of this month, and now I am entering into job searching mode. We need to build our future on EVEN higher place. Yes, our future is in the heaven.

 

SEVEN: For safety's sake, travel in pairs.
[Kian]  And let's be a faithful and lovely person to our partner.

 

EIGHT: Speed isn't always an advantage. The snails were on board with the cheetahs.
[Kian]  But... but it took 120 years to get on board. Well, snails got their job done. Let keep it up and look up. :)

 

NINE: When you're stressed, float awhile.
[Kian]  It's my time to float again and to rest. I am now building up my job searching people networking contacts and editing my resume. Please pray for me to continue to have momentum moving forward, especially during this holiday season. People like me tends to get lazy...

 

TEN: Remember, the Ark was built by amateurs; the Titanic by professionals.
[Kian]  Well, one thing I realize is that Noah got the blue print directly from God. The Titanic is built based on blue print provided by engineers like me.  he he... ^_^

 

Conclusion:
I would like to wish everybody in Jacob's cell group a Merry Merry Christmas!!!

Camping Tips - updated

For those who are first time campers, I just want to share my camping tips with you...

 

1. Be a well-planned camper: Make sure you bring all items you've planned for camping. Create your checklist if necessary. You could refer to my camping checklist. We printout our checklist and go through it every time we go camping. Guess what... we do catch things we miss in our final check before leaving our house.

2. How to pack food in your cooler/ice box: 

• Process your food before camping: Slice meat, and marinate it.
• Freeze your processed meat. So that you could keep it for 36 hours, if well kept. Monitor your cooler, you may need to buy ice from the campground store.
• Freeze a few bottles of your bottle water. When the ice melt, the bottle water will serve as your cold drink in hot summer day!!!  Don't limit yourself to bottle water. You can freeze your favorite beverage too.
• Pack them on your cooler just minutes before leaving your home.
• Always, freeze meat and iced bottle in the bottom, eggs, veggie, etc on the top of cooler.

3. Deal with the chilly night: It is hard to say how the overnight temperature would be now, however, generally the overnight temperature is usually chilly and humid as we are staying outdoor. Be prepare for the tight sleep night!!!  On top of your sleeping bag, bring enough warm clothing for the night. Please be aware that most heat loss is through head and feet. I usually put on a pair of sock before getting sleep, with my warmer hat on my side.

 

Pengfei/Lingzhen, we have "sleeping bag" for Anya, if you haven't had one. It is a comfortable winter cloth with a bag attach to it. Cobcob used it when he was 5 months old in our last year camping. (Note: Good until 12 months)

 

 

4. Deal with mosquitoes. (anyway, I don't attract too many mosquitoes ^_^, I only do the blue part.)

• Use Bug Off. (Personally, I hate chemical on my body, so I seldom use it. )  Another tip, if you have an expired Bug Off, don't throw it away. Instead of spraying it on your body, you can still spray it on objects, like table, chairs, etc, around your campsite.
• Wear bright colour clothing. Don't wear dark shirt!  Otherwise you will attract more bugs to you.
• Eat more garlic.
• If you have mosquitoes coils, or citronella candles, bring them.
• Campfire. This is the most effective way at dusk.
• Light up your torch. Torch will light up our campsite as well as attract mosquitoes away from us. Nehemiah Fellowship bought their torches in their past camping trip and stores them in OMAC store room next to Xiao Xiong's office. We can borrow a few from them. I have the fuel for the torch. Another tip: You can also buy the citronella candle torch from Dollarama for only $1. I've used it before, it is good for quite a few hours.
